GPSR on Etsy: What Handmade Sellers Must Add

What Etsy asks for

Etsy's help page states its scope covers sellers who "sell, manufacture, import, or distribute items into the European Economic Area (EEA)," meaning all EU member states plus Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway, as well as Northern Ireland. It lists three required seller actions: add an Economic Operator and, or, update the Manufacturers field; add applicable information to the Product safety info field; and review GPSR requirements for the shop. Sellers also declare themselves as Trader or Private individual.

GPSR applies to all types of products, both physical and digital, unless they are covered by other safety regulations.

Where fields are entered

   Economic Operator (shop level)

   Etsy.com > Shop Manager > Settings > Partners you work with > Add economic operator. Enter name, address and contact information, then Save operator. Etsy's own help page notes this cannot be done from the Seller App yet.

   Trader or private individual status

   Shop Manager > Sales channels > the pencil icon next to your shop > Seller details > Edit, then choose Trader or Private individual.

   Per-listing fields

   The Manufacturers field and the Product safety info field sit in the listing form itself, alongside a shop-level option to opt out of selling physical and, or, digital items into GPSR-covered states.

What happens if it's missing

Etsy's own GPSR help page states no deadline beyond the regulation's 13 December 2024 date, and contains no enforcement wording of its own. A UK seller blog quoting Etsy's Seller Handbook FAQ, which we could not fetch directly ourselves, reports Etsy's stance as taking action, such as removal or suspension, only if authorities notify it of non-compliance.

Where buyers see it

No Etsy page we could reach states where manufacturer, Responsible Person or safety data actually displays to a buyer. This is unverified. Check a live etsy.com listing set to ship to an EU address before assuming a specific placement.

Marketplace-specific quirks

• Handmade sellers are the manufacturer. If you make what you sell, Etsy's own definition of manufacturer, anyone who "manufactures a product or has a product manufactured under their name or trademark," applies to you, and you need an EU Responsible Person if you are outside the EU. • No separate vintage carve-out. GPSR itself excludes only antiques and repair-bound items; everything else, new or used, is in scope. Etsy's practical relief is its grandfathering interpretation for pre-13-December-2024 listings, reported to apply "even if they are renewed."
• Non-EU sellers. Etsy names two partner providers for an EU Responsible Person, Cert-Rep and International Associates. Print-on-demand sellers often use their production partner as the Economic Operator instead.
• Northern Ireland. Etsy lists Northern Ireland alongside the EEA in both its scope statement and its opt-out setting.

How Ariadne's record maps onto Etsy's fields

Ariadne's manufacturer block fills Etsy's Manufacturers field directly. When your manufacturer is outside the EU, the same record's Responsible Person block gives you what Etsy's Economic Operator tool asks for, though Etsy's tool is a separate shop-level setting you still enter yourself. The warnings array is a close match for the free-text Product safety info field. Ariadne does not touch Etsy's Trader or Private individual toggle, or the EEA opt-out setting, since neither is a GPSR disclosure. Generate the block once and paste it into both places.
