GPSR on eBay: What Sellers Must List

eBay puts GPSR data behind a section called Item disclosures, not a single compliance page. Here is what it asks for, field by field, and where eBay's own documentation still disagrees with itself.

What eBay asks for

eBay's UK and US seller-centre pages carry identical wording: business sellers listing into the EU or Northern Ireland must include the product manufacturer's name and contact information, an EU-based Responsible Person when the manufacturer is not in the EU or NI, product information such as model number and pictures, safety and compliance information such as warnings in the local language, and CE marking when the related rules require it.

The manufacturer, An importer (if manufacturer not in EU/NI), An authorised representative of the manufacturer, A fulfilment service provider (if manufacturer, importer, and authorised representative aren't based in the EU or NI)

Where you enter it

  1. 1

    Single listing

Open the listing in Seller Hub, scroll to Item disclosures, toggle Product manufacturer, then Add EU responsible person if the manufacturer is outside the EU or NI.

  2. 2

    Bulk edit

Select listings with the checkboxes, choose Bulk edit, then Item disclosures. A bulk save replaces the previous data rather than merging with it.

  3. 3

    File upload

Seller Hub > Reports > Uploads, download the template, fill it in, and re-upload.

  4. 4

    API

The Inventory API's regulatory container (createOffer, updateOffer, bulkCreateOffer) and the Trading API's Regulatory container carry the same fields programmatically.

What happens if it's missing

If you don't comply with the GPSR, your listings may not be visible or purchasable to buyers in the EU and Northern Ireland.

eBay's UK announcement adds that an impacted listing "will come off hold or have visibility restored when the required GPSR information is provided," with no effect on listing history or search ranking, and that account-level action is reserved for a large amount of non-compliant listings or repeated violations after warnings.

Where buyers see it

Marketplace-specific quirks

  • GB versus Northern Ireland. eBay states: "The General Product Safety Regulation does not apply to sales to UK buyers, with the exception of Northern Ireland." NI is treated exactly like the EU everywhere else in the requirement.
  • Business versus private sellers. Every eBay requirement sentence specifies "business sellers." eBay does not explicitly state whether private or occasional sellers are exempt.
  • Pre-13-December-2024 stock. eBay quotes Article 51 directly and says a product first supplied before the deadline "may not require" the new information, pointing sellers to the EU's Blue Guide to establish when a product was placed on the market.
  • Second-hand and antiques. "The regulation excludes antiques, which, for purposes of this law, includes collectors' items and works of art since they cannot meet the necessary safety requirements." GPSR itself still applies to ordinary second-hand goods.
  • Named partner providers. eBay lists Webinterpret, Cert-Rep, Obelis and Eucerep as Responsible Person service providers, with the disclaimer that eBay is independent from them and is not responsible for their work.

How Ariadne's record maps onto eBay's fields

Ariadne's manufacturer block covers eBay's Product manufacturer fields directly, and the EU Responsible Person block covers one of eBay's up-to-five Responsible Person slots, the common case for a private-label seller with a single EU contact. The warnings array is a close fit for eBay's Statements field. Ariadne does not generate pictograms, since those are chosen from eBay's own fixed list rather than typed as text, and product documents such as manuals stay a manual file upload on eBay's side. Build the block once at the GPSR generator and split it across these fields.

Frequently asked

How many EU Responsible Persons can one eBay listing have?

Up to five, per eBay's own help page.

Does GPSR apply to eBay.co.uk?

Not for sales to Great Britain. eBay explicitly excludes GB buyers from the requirement, but includes Northern Ireland, treating it like the EU.

What happens to a listing eBay flags as missing GPSR data?

eBay says the listing may become invisible or unpurchasable to EU and NI buyers until the information is added, restoring automatically once it is, with no effect on listing history or search ranking.

How many product-safety pictograms can I add on eBay?

eBay's current help page says up to 4. An older eBay page said 2. This is a real conflict between eBay's own pages, not a typo we're resolving for you.

Is a genuine antique exempt from GPSR on eBay?

Yes. eBay's own exclusion list names antiques, including collectors' items and works of art, alongside food, medicines and several other categories.
